Our History

Prior to 1964 Ventura County was part of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Led by Fred Hummel, a group of Ventura County architects met at the Pierpont Inn in Ventura to discuss the viability of creating a new and separate AIA chapter for Ventura County. These AIA members believed that the local architects and the community would be better served by the establishment of a local chapter. Between July and October of 1964 these architects worked with their colleagues in the Santa Barbara Chapter, the California Chapter and AIA National to achieve this goal.

On October 22, 1964, the Santa Barbara Chapter moved to relinquish the territory of Ventura County and to allow the architects of Ventura County to organize a Ventura County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The Ventura County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects was established in 1965.

The AIA Ventura County is a member-driven organization providing advocacy, leadership, and resources for architects to design a better world.
