Tour of the New VCMC Hospital Replacement Wing

May 31, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This tour will be led by Ernest Cirangle, Director of Design, Sr. Vice President, HOK, and Paul Morgan, Sr. Project Architect, Vice President, HOK.

The Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) Hospital Replacement Wing (HRW) project gives the community 2 new entry portals leading into the 230,000 sq. ft. facility which replaces 180 beds in the old hospital.  The new facility includes 7 new ORs; a new Emergency Department, more than doubling the capacity of the previous unit; new Imaging Department with MRI, CT Scan, and Nuclear Medicine; and an entire floor dedicated to Women’s and Children’s treatment.  The new HRW enhances the VCMC campus by providing places of community for patients, visitors, and staff alike.  New courtyards and circulation paths emphasize the gathering spaces: a mezzanine level boardwalk that overlooks a lower level outside dining terrace; a Healing Garden with serpentine paths to promote activity as well as contemplation; a children’s play area with a tide pool theme where origami birds fly overhead; green roofs and interior gardens viewable from corridors; and public lounges overlooking the entrances and main lobby filled with natural light.  All in a building that brings state-of the-art healthcare to upgrade and replace functions previously housed in seismically endangered buildings that date back as early as 1915.  The project will receive certificate of occupancy in mid-June and will see patients beginning in July.  HOK was partnered with Clark Construction as the Design/Builder.
